Distinct Micro-RNA profiles are associated with severity of hepatitis C virus recurrence and acute cellular rejection after liver transplant

(Submitter supplied) Recurrent hepatitis C virus (rHCV) is universal post-liver transplantation (LT), with accelerated fibrosis rates compared to non-transplanted patients. rHCV is associated with increased mortality and morbidity post-transplant and is a leading indication for re-transplantation. We hypothesized that miRNA expression profiles from liver grafts can distinguish severity of HCV recurrence and differentiate this from acute cellular rejection (ACR). more...

Identifying microRNA-mRNA regulatory networks in colorectal cancer by a combination of expression profile and bioinformatics analysis

(Submitter supplied) A multi-step approach combining microarray profile and bioinformatics analysis was adopted to identify the CRC specific miRNA-mRNA regulatory network. First, differentially expressed miRNAs and mRNAs were found out in CRC samples compared with normal epithelial tissues by miRNA and mRNA microarray respectively. Secondly the target mRNAs of dysregualted miRNA were identified by a combination of Pearson correlation coefficient between the expression level of miRNAs and mRNAs and online miRNA target predicting databases. more...

Integrated ordination of miRNA and mRNA expression profiles [miRNA]

(Submitter supplied) Several studies have shown that negative and positive miRNA-mRNA correlations are symmetrically distributed. While negative correlations are consistent with a faster degradation of miRNA targets, the presence of positive correlations suggests bidirectional interactions between the two classes of molecules. However, a comprehensive study of miRNA and mRNA correlations is lacking. A homogeneous map of miRNA and mRNA relationships was obtained by multidimensional scaling (MDS) applied to a single matrix including both heterologous (miRNA-mRNA) and homologous (miRNA-miRNA and mRNA-mRNA) correlations.

Expression data from human embryonic (9-12w) and post-natal livers

(Submitter supplied) The liver is a multifunctional organ, which undergoes rapid changes during the developmental period and relies on tightly-regulated gene expression. Little is known regarding the complex expression patterns of mRNAs during the early stages of human liver development in comparison to post-natal livers. We used microarrays to detail the global programme of gene expression during liver development following specification, at the stage of proliferation and differentiation when compared to post-natal livers, and identified distinct classes of up-regulated and downregulated genes during this process.

Bladder cancer: analysis of miRNA-mRNA interactions

(Submitter supplied) Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression. Their abilyty to affect multiple gene pathways by targeting to various mRNAs makes them to an interesting class of regulators. The interplay between miRNA and mRNA has been proposed as an important process in cancer development and progression. In this study, we analyzed miRNA -mRNA interactions in bladder urothelial carcinoma. more...

Genome-wide Transcriptional Profiling Reveals MicroRNA-correlated Genes and Pathways in Human Lymphoblastoid Cell Lines

(Submitter supplied) Background: Expression level of many genes shows abundant natural variation in human populations. The variations in gene expression are believed to contribute to phenotypic differences. Emerging evidence has shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) are one of the key regulators of gene expression. However, past studies have focused on the miRNA target genes and use loss- or gain-of-function approach that may not reflect natural association between miRNA and mRNAs. more...
