Ductal Carcinoma Progression

(Submitter supplied) To obtain insight into the molecular basis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and its progression by infiltrating surrounding tissue, we have performed cellular-based gene expression analysis of pure DCIS and DCIS with co-existing invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and compared the histological and molecular aspects between these morphologically identical lesions seeking to find key genes involved in DCIS progression. more...

Expression data from human breast tumors and their paired normal tissues

(Submitter supplied) Microarray is widely used to monitor gene expression changes in breast cancer. The transcriptomic changes in breast cancer is commonly occured during the transition of normal cells to cancerous cells. This is the first study on gene expression profiling of multi ethnic of Malaysian breast cancer patients (Malays, Chinese and Indian). We aim to identify differentially expressed genes between tumors and normal tissues. more...

Analysis of microdissected invasive lobular and ductal breast carcinomas in relation to normal ductal and lobular cells

(Submitter supplied) The aim of our study was to identify gene expression profiles of ductal and lobular carcinomas in relation to normal ductal and lobular cells. We examined ten mastectomy specimens from postmenopausal breast cancer patients. Ductal and lobular tumor and normal cells were microdissected from cryosections. Fifty nanograms of total RNA were amplified and labeled by PCR and in vitro transcription. GCOS pairwise comparison algorithm and rank products have identified multiple genes that are differentially expressed in comparisons between ductal and lobular tumor and normal cell types. more...

Two distinct gene signatures identify malignant Neuroblast and Schwannian stromal cells of Neuroblastic Tumors

(Submitter supplied) Tumor tissue heterogeneity is a well known feature of several solid tumors. Neuroblastic Tumors (NTs) is a group of paediatric cancers with a great tissue heterogeneity. Most of NTs are composed of undifferentiated, poorly differentiated or differentiating neuroblastic (Nb) cells with very few or absent Schwannian stromal (SS) cells: these tumors are grouped as Neuroblastoma (Schwannian stroma-poor). more...

Gene expression signatures in breast cancer distinguish phenotype charact., histological subtypes, and tumor invasivness

(Submitter supplied) Background. The development of reliable gene expression profiling technology is having an increasing impact on our understanding of breast cancer biology. Methods. In this study, microarray analysis was performed in order to establish gene signatures for different breast cancer phenotypes, determine differentially expressed gene sequences at different stages of the disease, and identify sequences with biological significance for tumor progression. more...

Identification of copy number alterations associated with the progression of DCIS to Invasive Ductal Carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a non-obligate precursor to invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). Annotation of the genetic differences between the two lesions may assist in the identification of genes that promote the invasive phenotype. Matched IDC and DCIS showed highly similar copy number profiles (average of 83% of the genome shared) indicating a common clonal orgin although there is evidence that the DCIS continues to evolve in parallel with the co-existing IDC. more...

Exon-based clustering of tumor transcriptomes reveals alternative exons associated with metastasis in breast cancer

(Submitter supplied) Exonic profiling is an emerging topic in disease-associated transcriptome analysis, but is still facing major limitations. In this study, we performed a microarray-based analysis of the transcriptome at the exon level of mouse primary mammary tumors having different abilities to give rise to metastases. First, we developed a bioinformatics platform and used a stringent algorithm to identify 679 genes with differentially expressed exons in primary tumors of the 4T1 mouse model of mammary tumor progression. more...
