Genes associated with prostate cancer are differentially expressed in African American and European American men (matched normal specimens)

(Submitter supplied) A total of 1,507 probes measured the expression of 517 genes on the custom Illumina DASL assay testing if select genes showed cancer-specific differential expression according to race. Genes were chosen for inclusion in the assay based on existing evidence from the literature and our own data for their importance to prostate cancer, prostate cancer aggressiveness, or cancer in general

RNA sequencing of prostate cancer and normal tissue from African Americans and European Americans

(Submitter supplied) Background:African American men (AAM) are at higher risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa) and are at higher risk of dying from the disease compared to European American men (EAM). We sought to better understand PCa molecular diversity that may be underlying these disparities. We ran RNA-sequencing data analysis on high-grade PCa to identify genes showing differential tumor versus normal adjacent tissue expression patterns unique to AAM or EAM.

Tumor Immunobiological Differences in Prostate Cancer between African-American and European-American Men

(Submitter supplied) The incidence and mortality rates of prostate cancer are significantly higher in African-American men when compared to European-American men. We tested the hypothesis that differences in tumor biology contribute to this survival health disparity. Using microarray technology, we obtained gene expression profiles of primary prostate tumors resected from 33 African-American and 36 European-American patients. more...

Expression data from ancestrally diverse group of prostate cancer patients

(Submitter supplied) African American men are disproportionately affected by both vitamin D deficiency and increased risk of prostate cancer. We used microarrays to quantify gene expression of vitamin D-related genes in the benign epithelium in a diverse group of radical prostatectomy patients

Gene expression profiling of the prostate biopsy samples from cancer and adjacent normal tissues of European American prostate cancer patients

(Submitter supplied) Prostate cancer (PCa) tends to be more aggressive and lethal in African Americans (AA) compared to European Americans (EA). To further understand the biological factors accounting for the PCa disparities observed in AA and EA patients, we performed gene profiling analysis using Affymetrix human exon 1.0 ST arrays to identify the differentially expressed genes in EA PCa vs. EA normal.

Differential Gene Expression between African American and European American Colorectal Cancer Patients

(Submitter supplied) The incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC) is higher in African Americans (AAs) than in other ethnic groups in the U. S., but reasons for the disparities are unknown. We performed gene expression profiling and microsatellite instability (MSI) analysis of sporadic CRCs from AAs vs. European Americans (EAs) to assess the contribution to CRC disparities. We evaluated gene expression of 43 AA and 43 EA CRC tumors matched by stage and 40 normal colon tissues using the Agilent human whole genome 4x44K cDNA arrays. more...
