Solea senegalensis 5k oligo microarray

(Submitter supplied) 10,185 high-quality sequences were obtained from 10 tissue(or stage of development)-specific libraries and were submitted to GenBank (accession numbers: FF281814-FF291996) The final array design contained 5,087 gene specific Solea senegalensis probes, as well as positive and negative control probes (maize expansin, ZmMYB42, and xyloglucan endo-transglycosylase), a total of 700 per array. These were used to assess detection limits and range, to verify spatial homogeneity, and to determine experimental within-array variation. more...

Influence of Gross Ovarian Stage on Transcript Profiles in Fathead Minnow (Pimephales promelas) Ovary Tissue

(Submitter supplied) Interpretation of toxicogenomic experiments conducted with ovary tissue from asynchronous-spawning small fish species are complicated by background variation in the relative abundance and proportion of follicles at different stages within the ovary tissue sample. This study employed both real-time quantitative PCR and a 15,000 gene oligonucleotide microarray to examine variation in the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) ovarian transcriptional profile as a function of quantitative and qualitative differences in ovarian histology. more...

Preovulatory ovary

(Submitter supplied) Nylon microarrays displaying 9152 rainbow trout cDNAs were hybridized using RNA samples originating from ovarian tissue collected during late vitellogenesis, post-vitellogenesis and oocyte maturation. Differentially expressed genes were identified using a statistical analysis. A supervised clustering analysis was performed using only differentially expressed genes in order to identify gene clusters exhibiting similar expression profiles. more...

Preovulatory ovaries: time course

Analysis of fish preovulatory ovaries collected during late vitellogenesis, post-vitellogenesis and oocyte maturation. In fish, the post-vitellogenic period is critical for completion of the oogenetic process. Results provide insight into molecular events occurring during the preovulatory period.

Microarrays reveal oocyte lipid storage droplet gene as key factor in reproductive dysfunction of captive-reared P. monodon

(Submitter supplied) Background: Aquaculture of the black tiger prawn Penaeus monodon remains severely constrained by an almost total dependence on wild-caught broodstock. Reliance on wild-caught broodstock stems, for the most part, from reduced reproductive potential of captive-reared females. Reproductive performance of captive-reared females is usually characterised by longer latency period, lower egg production, egg hatch rates and post-larval survivorship compared with their wild-caught counterparts. more...

Effects of eyestalk ablation on the gene expression levels in female black tiger shrimp broodstock (Penaeus monodon)

(Submitter supplied) Comparisons of gene expression profiles between ovaries of before (day 0) and after eyestalk ablation (days 1, 4 and 7) of domesticated 14-month-old black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) were made using a cDNA microarray. Differentially expressed genes were identified through the microarray analysis, and the microarray results were confirmed by real-time PCR. Selected genes were further characterized.

Differential genome-wide gene expression profiling of bovine largest and second largest follicles

(Submitter supplied) We tried to classify largest (F1) and second largest follicles (F2) by global gene expression profiles and to identify differentially expressed genes between the follicular groups using combination of microarray and quantitative real-time PCR (QPCR) analysis. F1 (10.7 ± 0.7 mm) and F2 (7.8 ± 0.2 mm) were collected for microarray and QPCR analysis. Global gene expression profiles of each follicle were analyzed by hierarchical cluster analysis and expression profiles of representative 16 genes were confirmed by QPCR analysis. more...

Swimming down-regulates ovarian transcriptomic response of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss

(Submitter supplied) Metabolic processes and sexual maturation closely interact during the long-distance reproductive migration of many fish species to their spawning grounds. In the present study, we have for the first time used exercise experimentally to investigate the effects on sexual maturation in rainbow trout. Pubertal autumn-spawning seawater-raised female rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (n=26; 50-cm, 1.5-kg) were rested or swum at a near optimal speed of 0.75 body-lengths per second in a 6,000 L swim-flume under natural reproductive conditions (16 °C fresh-water, starvation, 8h-light:16h-dark photoperiod). more...
