Definition

Refractory anemia with excess blasts (RAEB) is a frequent severe subtype of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS; see this term) characterized by cytopenias with unilineage or multilineage dysplasia and 5% to 19% blasts in bone marrow or blood. [from ORDO]
