An inflammatory lesion comprising large numbers of multinucleated cells that occurs in two forms: one, a central giant cell granuloma that occurs in the jaw, and that is characterised by large lesions that can both expand the cortical plate and resorb roots and move teeth; and, two, a peripheral giant cell granuloma that is found in soft tissue, usually the gingiva, is small, usually less than two centimeters, and often ulcerated.
