Basal plate of the placenta from midgestation to term (HG-U133B)

Analysis of the basal plate of the placenta from midgestation to term. The basal plate is the region where maternal and fetal cells coexist. Its proper formation is required for pregnancy. Results provide insight into the molecular basis of the unique cell-cell interactions in the basal plate.

Expression data from porcelain crabs following heat stress

(Submitter supplied) Porcelain crabs, Petrolisthes cinctipes, live in the marine intertidal zone and routinely experience thermal stress. Genes involved in heat shock responses are generally upregulated following heat stress and genes involved in oxidative energy production are downregulated following heat stress We used microarrays to detail the global programme of gene expression underlying responses to thermal stress and identified distinct classes of up-regulated and down-regulated genes during this process. more...

Severe Preeclampsia-Related Changes in Gene Expression at the Maternal-Fetal Interface Include Siglec-6 and Pappalysin-2

(Submitter supplied) Preeclampsia (PE), which affects 4-8% of human pregnancies, causes significant maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Within the basal plate, placental cytotrophoblasts (CTBs) of fetal origin invade the uterus and extensively remodel the maternal vasculature. In PE, CTB invasion is often shallow, and vascular remodeling is rudimentary. To better understand possible causes, we conducted a global analysis of gene expression at the maternal-fetal interface in placental samples from women with PE (n = 12; 24-36 wk) vs. more...

Placental gene expression in pregnancies established after the transfer of day 7 blastocysts derived from in vitro (IVP), somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and in vivo (AI) embryos

(Submitter supplied) Aberrant placental gene expression associated with culture condition and/or deficiencies in transcriptome reprogramming are hypothesized to be the major cause of SCNT and IVP inefficiencies. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to invesitgate the dysregulated genes, molecular pathways and functional alteration in bovine placentas derived from SCNT and IVP pregnancies compared to their AI counterparts

Characterization of the Placental Transcriptome through Mid to Late Gestation in the Mare

(Submitter supplied) The placenta is a dynamic organ which undergoes extensive remodeling throughout pregnancy to support, protect and nourish the developing fetus. Despite the importance of the placenta, very little is known about its gene expression beyond very early pregnancy and post-partum. Therefore, we utilized RNA-sequencing to characterize the transcriptome from the fetal (chorioallantois) and maternal (endometrium) components of the placenta from mares throughout gestation (4, 6, 10, 11 m). more...

Deregulation of Gene Expression induced by Environmental Tobacco Smoke Exposure in Pregnancy

(Submitter supplied) Passive smoke intake by pregnant women may have detrimental effects such as spontaneous abortion, lower birth weight, stillbirth, and reduced infant lung function. To extend our knowledge on molecular effects of tobacco smoke exposure in pregnancy, we analyzed transcriptome alterations in passive smokers (PS) and compared them to those in active smokers (AS). Using Illumina Expression Beadchip with 24,526 transcript probes, gene expression patterns were assayed in placentas from PS (N=25) exposed to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) throughout pregnancy and non-exposed (NS) counterparts (N=35), and in cord blood cells from their newborns. more...

Gene expression profiling of the canine placenta during normal and antigestagen-induced luteolysis.

(Submitter supplied) Next-generation sequencing (RNA-Seq) was performed on canine placenta Placental samples collected at natural prepartum luteolysis were compared with those samples obtained from dogs at mid-pregnancy stage. Furthermore, in order to better understand the involvement of P4 and PGR-dependent downstream regulatory mechanisms during initiation of parturition in the dog, samples derived from dogs in which prepartum luteolysis/abortion was induced with the antigestagen aglepristone at mid-pregnancy, were included. more...
