High proliferation and delamination during skin epidermal stratification

(Submitter supplied) The development of complex stratified epithelial barriers in mammals is initiated from single-layered epithelia. How stratification is initiated and fueled are still open questions. Previous studies on skin epidermal stratification suggested a central role for perpendicular/asymmetric cell division orientation of the basal keratinocyte progenitors. Here, we use centrosomes, that organize the mitotic spindle, to test whether cell division orientation and stratification are linked. more...

Determination of Nir (Noc2l) function in epidermis during mouse development by global transcriptome analysis

(Submitter supplied) To investigate the role of Nir in epidermis during embryogenesis, we crossed mice harboring conditional Nir alleles with the Krt14-Cre deleter strain, which results in Cre-mediated loss of Nir selectively in epidermis. Transciptome analysis of keratinocytes obtained from control and knock-out mice at E15.5 revealed 4393 genes differentially expressed between Nir knock-out and control mice (p-value<10-2). more...

Expression data in the absence of Notch1 in hair follicles

(Submitter supplied) Notch1 deficient hair matrix keratinocytes have lower mitotic rates, resulting in smaller follicles with fewer cells. In addition, the ratio of melanocytes to keratinocytes is greatly reduced. Microarray was performed to study downstream mechanism of Notch1-deficiency Keywords: genetic modification

Notch1 deficiency effect on hair follicles

Analysis of Notch1-deficient hair follicles from the skin of transgenic animals. Results provide insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying the lowered mitotic index and increased apoptosis observed in Notch1-deficient hair follicles.

RNASeq analysis to detect any molecular changes in skin of Dlx4 ablated mice compared to Wild type littermates.

(Submitter supplied) DLX4 is a member of DLX family of mammalian homeobox genes and cis linked sister gene of Dlx3. Misexpression of Dlx4 is associated with tumorigenicity. However,Dlx4 role in epidermal development and homeostasis is not characterized. In this study, we compared Wild type (DLX4-WT) and DLX4 deficient (DLX4-KO) Skin transcriptomes.
