Transcriptional profiling of Eucalyptus grandis challenged with Chrysoporthe austroafricana

(Submitter supplied) Background: Eucalyptus species and interspecific hybrids exhibit valuable growth and wood properties that make them a highly desirable commodity. However, these trees are challenged by a wide array of biotic stresses during their lifetimes. The Eucalyptus grandis reference genome sequence provides a resource to study pest and pathogen defence mechanisms in long-lived woody plants. E. grandis trees are generally susceptible to Chrysoporthe austroafricana, a causal agent of stem cankers on eucalypts. more...

Genome-wide mapping of histone H3 lysine 4 trimethylation in Eucalyptus grandis developing xylem

(Submitter supplied) Histone modifications play an integral role in plant development, but have been poorly studied in woody plants. Investigating chromatin organization in wood-forming tissue and its role in regulating gene expression allows us to understand the mechanisms underlying cellular differentiation during xylogenesis (wood formation) and identify novel functional regions in plant genomes. However, woody tissue poses unique challenges for using high-throughput chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) techniques for studying genome-wide histone modifications in vivo. more...

RNA-seq analysis reveals the role of red light in resistance against Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 in tomato plants

(Submitter supplied) Background: Plants attenuate their responses to a variety of bacterial and fungal pathogens, leading to higher incidences of pathogen infection at night. However, little is known about the molecular mechanism responsible for the light-induced defence response; transcriptome data would likely facilitate the elucidation of this mechanism. Results: In this study, we observed diurnal changes in tomato resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. more...

A single functional blast resistance gene Pi54 activates complex defense mechanism in Rice

(Submitter supplied) To investigate the responses of resistance gene Pi54 at transcriptome level in blast resistant transgenic rice line TP-Pi54 during infection by Magnaporthe oryzae, we studied the co-expression analysis using microarray along with susceptible non-transgenic line Taipei 309 (TP). Suitable controls for both lines were used. The comparative analysis of differentially expressed genes was conducted.

Transcriptome Analysis of Tomato Genotypes in Response to Bacterial spot (Xanthomonas perforans) Race T4 Inoculation

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: Investigate genes associated to resistance of Xanthomonas perforans race T4 in tomato line with different resistance level Methods: Resistant and susceptible tomato breeding lines were subjected to the inoculation with Xanthomonas perforans race T4 followed by sample collection at 48 hpi and RNA-seq analysis for screening differential expressed genes associated with inoculation of pathogen. more...

Gene expression in xylem tissue on an Eucalyptus pseudo-testcross population: genotyping subset of discovery array probes

(Submitter supplied) Technological advances are progressively increasing the application of genomics to a wider array of economically and ecologically important species. High-density maps enriched for transcribed genes facilitate the discovery of connections between genes and phenotypes. We report the construction of a high-density linkage map of expressed genes for the heterozygous genome of Eucalyptus using Single Feature Polymorphism (SFP) markers. more...

Responses of Zea mays root tissue to inoculation with the necrotrophic root pathogen Phytophthora cinnamomi

(Submitter supplied) Phytophthora cinnamomi is a devastating soil-borne oomycete with a very broad host range however there remains a major gap in the understanding of plant resistance responses to the pathogen, furthermore, necrotrophic plant-pathogen interactions, particularly those of root pathogens, remain poorly understood. Zea mays exhibits non-host resistance to the pathogen and has been well characterised as a model species. more...

Profiling gene expression during root induction in juvenile and mature cuttings of Eucalyptus grandis revealed developmental and auxin dependent regulation of the microtubule system

(Submitter supplied) Rooting capability is one of the economically traits lost during the juvenile to mature phase change in woody plants. A comprehensive microarray analysis was performed to compare the profiles of gene expression in juvenile and mature cuttings from E. grandis, either auxin treated or untreated on days, 0, 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 post excision. At the end of the experiment, root primordia were observed only in auxin treated juvenile cuttings. more...
