Rhabdomyosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma comparison

Comparison of gene expression in 12 pediatric rhabdomyosarcomas (RMS) to that in 11 pediatric Ewing's sarcomas (EWS). 3 embryonic and 9 alveolar RMS tumors examined. RMS and EWS appear similar in routine histology. Results identify expression profiles that distinguish RMS from EWS.

Effect of EWS/FLI1 and DAX1 silencing on the gene expression profile of the A673 Ewing cell line

(Submitter supplied) The molecular hallmark of the Ewing family of tumors is the presence of balanced chromosomal translocations leading to the formation of chimerical transcription factors (i.e. EWS/FLI1) that play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of Ewing tumors by deregulating gene expression. We have recently demonstrated that DAX1 (NR0B1), an orphan nuclear receptor which was not previously implicated in cancer, is induced by the EWS/FLI1 oncoprotein and is highly expressed in Ewing tumors, suggesting that DAX1 is a biologically relevant target of EWS/FLI1-mediated oncogenesis. more...

Identification and validation of novel ERBB2 (HER2, NEU) targets including genes

(Submitter supplied) V-erb-b2 erythroblastic leukemia viral oncogene homolog 2 (ERBB2; synonyms HER2, NEU) encodes a transmembrane glycoprotein with tyrosine kinase-specific activity that acts as a major switch in different signal-transduction processes. ERBB2 amplification and overexpression have been found in a number of human cancers, including breast, ovary and kidney carcinoma. Our aim was to detect ERBB2- regulated target genes that contribute to its tumorigenic effect on a genomewide scale. more...

Effect of genomic imbalances on gene expression in rhabdomyosarcoma

(Submitter supplied) Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common paediatric soft-tissue sarcoma and resembles developing skeletal muscle. Specific genomic alterations including translocations, deletions and amplification events have been associated with the alveolar and embryonal subtypes of RMS. Characterizing these changes has led to increased understanding of the underlying molecular biology. However, further aberrations and their significance remain to be defined. more...

Ewing family tumor and neuroblastoma comparison

Analysis of Ewing family tumor (EFT) and neuroblastoma (NB) samples. Distinguishing EFTs from other small round blue cell tumors (SRBCTs), such as NBs, by histologic methods is often difficult. Results identify EF-associated genes that enable molecular discrimination between EFTs and other SRBCTs.
