Intestinal absorptive cell model response to iron deficiency and overload

Analysis of intestinal CaCo-2 cell line grown in medium free of iron or supplemented with hemin to mimic iron overload. Intestinal iron absorption is crucial for systemic iron homeostasis. Results provide insight into molecular mechanisms regulating iron metabolism.

Gene expression profiles of Chlamydophila pneumoniae during the acute and iron mediated persistent infection

(Submitter supplied) The obligate intracellular, gram-negative bacterium, Chlamydophila pneumoniae (Cpn), has impact as an acute and chronic disease-causing pathogen. Little is known about changes in the Cpn transcriptome during its biphasic developmental cycle (the acute infection) and persistence stages that are linked to chronic diseases. To analyze Cpn CWL029 gene expression, we designed a pathogen-specific oligo microarray and optimized the extraction method for pathogen RNA. more...

Expression Changes Relevant for Apoptosis in K562 Cells Co-Treated with Amifostine and Imatinib

(Submitter supplied) We had previously demonstrated an increased proapoptotic effect of Imatinib (STI571) in combination with Amifostine (AMI) in K562 cell line. In this study we used genomic scale gene expression profiling to monitor changes at transcriptional level in K562 cells during the treatment with AMI+STI571. We identified a transcriptional repressor of survival genes, known as BTF, which triggers a pro-apoptotic signal, potentially helpful to overcome the resistance to STI571. more...

Comparative study of gene expression in human colorectal cancer tissues and normal mucosa

(Submitter supplied) The purpose of our study was to better understand the genetic mechanism of oncogenesis for human colorectal cancer and to identify potential new tumour markers of use in clinical practice. Results: Comparing cancerous tissues with normal colonic mucosa we identified 584 known genes (3%) differentially expressed to a significant degree (p<0.001). Many of the transcripts that were more abundant in tumours than in non-neoplastic tissues appear to reflect important events for colon carcinogenesis. more...

In vivo gene expression in granulosa cells during pig terminal follicular development.

(Submitter supplied) The aim of this study is the identification of genes and gene networks involved in pig ovarian follicular development. cDNA nylon micro-arrays (2849 sequenced clones) were designed from different libraries : four subtractive suppressive hybridization libraries (generated from small versus large and small versus medium follicles) and a pig multi-tissue cDNA library. Granulosa cells were isolated from healthy follicles (small, medium or large), 24 h or 96 h after the end of a progestagen treatment. more...

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...

D-serine effect on the brain: dose response

Analysis of forebrains of animals treated with up to 500 mg/kg D-serine for 96 hours. D-serine is involved in many physiological processes through its interaction with the glycine binding site of the NMDA receptor. Results provide insight into the impact of D-serine exposure on neuronal functions.

Transcriptomic profiling of the livers of blue catfish (Ictalurus furcatus) after infection with Edwardsiella ictaluri

(Submitter supplied) We have utilized a high-density oligonucleotide microarray for catfish in order to study the transcriptomic responses of blue catfish following infection with E. ictaluri and to identify and develop important immune-related markers for future characterization and genetic mapping. Microarray analysis of the transcriptome profile of the blue catfish liver following infection with the Gram negative bacterium led to the identification of 103 differentially expressed transcripts. more...
