Unique pharmacological actions of atypical neuroleptic quetiapine: possible role in cell cycle/fate control

(Submitter supplied) Quetiapine is an atypical neuroleptic with a pharmacological profile distinct from classic neuroleptics. It is currently approved for treating patients with schizophrenia, major depression and bipolar I disorder. However, its cellular effects remain elusive. We used microarrays to characterize RNA transcript levels in the brains of mice chronically treated with quetiapine, the neuroleptic haloperidol, or vehicle. more...

Atypical neuroleptic quetiapine effect on brain: dose response

Analysis of frontal cortex and striatum from males treated with quetiapine at doses of 10 or 100 mg/kg, twice a day for 28 days. Quetiapine has pharmacological actions distinct from classic neuroleptics. Results provide insight into molecular basis of the unique therapeutic profile of quetiapine.

Classification of Antipsychotic Drugs by Gene Expression in the Frontal Cortex of Mice

(Submitter supplied) Antipsychotic drugs are classified as typical and atypical based on extrapyramidal effects. However, since the frontal cortex is one of the most important regions for antipsychotic actions, this study attempted to classify antipsychotic drugs based on gene expression in the frontal cortex. Chlorpromazine and thioridazine were selected as typical antipsychotics, and olanzapine and quetiapine as atypical antipsychotics. more...

Typical and atypical antipsychotic drugs effect on brain

Examination of brains from 13 week ddY males treated for 28 days with an antipsychotic: either the typical drugs chlorpromazine and thioridazine (25 mg/kg each) or the atypical drugs olanzapine (1.25 mg/kg) and quetiapine (18.75 mg/kg). Results provide insight into schizophrenia negative symptoms.
