The plastome genome was 165,731 bp long with large single-copy (90,009 bp), small single-copy (11,448 bp) and a pair of inverted repeats (32,137 bp). Moreover, 134 genes were encoded, including 88 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis of 18 species using concatenated 78 protein-coding genes (excluding 9 duplicated genes and one pseudogene out of 88 CDS) revealed that L. foliosum is most closely related to L. quihoui, forming the strong bootstrap values. This study which is the first report of the chloroplast genome of L. foliosum provides important information for further phylogenetic studies on Ligustrum and distinguishing some closely related taxa in Ligustrum.
