Metalloenzyme superfamily

This family includes phosphopentomutase Swiss:P07651 and 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate-independent phosphoglycerate mutase, Swiss:P37689. This family is also related to Pfam:PF00245 [1]. The alignment contains the most conserved residues that are probably involved in metal binding and catalysis. [1]. 10082381. A superfamily of metalloenzymes unifies phosphopentomutase and. cofactor- independent phosphoglycerate mutase with alkaline. phosphatases and sulfatases.. Galperin MY, Bairoch A, Koonin EV;. Protein Sci 1998;7:1829-1835. (from Pfam)

phosphopentomutase

This protein is involved in the purine and pyrimidine salvage pathway. It catalyzes the conversion of D-ribose 1-phosphate to D-ribose 5-phosphate and the conversion of 2-deoxy-D-ribose 1-phosphate to 2-deoxy-D-ribose 5-phosphate. The seed members of this protein are characterized deoB proteins from E.Coli(SP:P07651) and Bacillus (SP:P46353). This HMM matches PF01676 for Metalloenzyme superfamily.
