- Congenital Abnormality
Congenital vertical talus (CVT), also known as 'rocker-bottom foot' deformity, is a dislocation of the talonavicular joint characterized by vertical orientation of the talus with a rigid dorsal dislocation of the navicular, equinus deformity of the calcaneus, abduction deformity of the forefoot, and contracture of the soft tissues of the hind- and mid-foot. This condition is usually associated with multiple other congenital deformities and only rarely is an isolated deformity with familial occurrence (summary by Levinsohn et al., 2004). The condition is transmitted in an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance, and sometimes shows incomplete penetrance and variable expressivity. There may be a broad spectrum of deformities, including flatfoot, talipes equinovarus (TEV or clubfoot), cavus foot, metatarsus adductus, and even hypoplasia of the tibia (summary by Dobbs et al., 2006).
Failure to thrive- MedGen UID:
- 746019
- •Concept ID:
- C2315100
- •
- Disease or Syndrome
Failure to thrive (FTT) refers to a child whose physical growth is substantially below the norm.
Hepatomegaly- MedGen UID:
- 42428
- •Concept ID:
- C0019209
- •
- Finding
Abnormally increased size of the liver.
Poor suck- MedGen UID:
- 324693
- •Concept ID:
- C1837142
- •
- Finding
An inadequate sucking reflex, resulting in the difficult of newborns to be breast-fed.
Dysplastic corpus callosum- MedGen UID:
- 98128
- •Concept ID:
- C0431369
- •
- Congenital Abnormality
Dysplasia and dysgenesis of the corpus callosum are nonspecific descriptions that imply defective development of the corpus callosum. The term dysplasia is applied when the morphology of the corpus callosum is altered as a congenital trait. For instance, the corpus callosum may be hump-shaped, kinked, or a striped corpus callosum that lacks an anatomically distinct genu and splenium.
Increased CSF lactate- MedGen UID:
- 257904
- •Concept ID:
- C1167918
- •
- Finding
Increased concentration of lactate in the cerebrospinal fluid.
Severe global developmental delay- MedGen UID:
- 332436
- •Concept ID:
- C1837397
- •
- Finding
A severe delay in the achievement of motor or mental milestones in the domains of development of a child.
Anisocytosis- MedGen UID:
- 66371
- •Concept ID:
- C0221278
- •
- Finding
Abnormally increased variability in the size of erythrocytes.
Micrognathia- MedGen UID:
- 44428
- •Concept ID:
- C0025990
- •
- Congenital Abnormality
Developmental hypoplasia of the mandible.
Hypertonia- MedGen UID:
- 10132
- •Concept ID:
- C0026826
- •
- Finding
A condition in which there is increased muscle tone so that arms or legs, for example, are stiff and difficult to move.
Retrognathia- MedGen UID:
- 19766
- •Concept ID:
- C0035353
- •
- Congenital Abnormality
An abnormality in which the mandible is mislocalised posteriorly.
Flexion contracture- MedGen UID:
- 83069
- •Concept ID:
- C0333068
- •
- Anatomical Abnormality
A flexion contracture is a bent (flexed) joint that cannot be straightened actively or passively. It is thus a chronic loss of joint motion due to structural changes in muscle, tendons, ligaments, or skin that prevents normal movement of joints.
Camptodactyly- MedGen UID:
- 195780
- •Concept ID:
- C0685409
- •
- Congenital Abnormality
The distal interphalangeal joint and/or the proximal interphalangeal joint of the fingers or toes cannot be extended to 180 degrees by either active or passive extension.
Microcephaly- MedGen UID:
- 1644158
- •Concept ID:
- C4551563
- •
- Finding
Head circumference below 2 standard deviations below the mean for age and gender.
Increased circulating lactate concentration- MedGen UID:
- 332209
- •Concept ID:
- C1836440
- •
- Finding
Abnormally increased level of blood lactate (2-hydroxypropanoic acid). Lactate is produced from pyruvate by lactate dehydrogenase during normal metabolism. The terms lactate and lactic acid are often used interchangeably but lactate (the component measured in blood) is strictly a weak base whereas lactic acid is the corresponding acid. Lactic acidosis is often used clinically to describe elevated lactate but should be reserved for cases where there is a corresponding acidosis (pH below 7.35).
Wide mouth- MedGen UID:
- 44238
- •Concept ID:
- C0024433
- •
- Congenital Abnormality
Distance between the oral commissures more than 2 SD above the mean. Alternatively, an apparently increased width of the oral aperture (subjective).
Prominent nasal bridge- MedGen UID:
- 343051
- •Concept ID:
- C1854113
- •
- Finding
Anterior positioning of the nasal root in comparison to the usual positioning for age.
Decreased activity of mitochondrial ATP synthase complex- MedGen UID:
- 892442
- •Concept ID:
- C4023125
- •
- Finding
A reduction in the activity of the mitochondrial proton-transporting ATP synthase complex, which makes ATP via oxidative phosphorylation, and is sometimes described as Complex V of the electron transport chain.
