Definition

A lesion in the prostate gland characterized by glandular atrophy, chronic inflammation, and epithelial hyperplasia. It has been suggested that it is a precancerous lesion and it may lead to the development of prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and prostatic carcinoma. [from NCI]
