We measured mRNA expression as previously described (Lanza et al., Cell Metab. 16 (2012), pp. 777–788) with slight modifications. In brief, total RNA was isolated from the biopsy collected at 1000 hr, and sequencing libraries were prepared with TruSeq RNA Sample Prep Kit v2. Libraries were sequenced on a HiSeq 2000 sequencer using TruSeq SBS sequencing kit version 3 and HCS version 2.0.12.0 software. Genes with a FDR-corrected p value of ≤0.05 and an absolute log2 fold change of ≥0.5 (where 0.0 signifies no change) were considered for further analysis.

Illumina Casava1.7 software used for basecalling. Reads were trimmed to remove adapter sequence and aligned using MapRSeq pipeline (Kalari et al; BMC Bioinformatics. 2014 Jun 27;15:224) using default configuration. Genome_build: hg19 Supplementary_files_format_and_content: tab-delimited text files of raw reads per gene in each sample.
