Extraction protocol According to what described for: GSE6338, GSE14879, GSE19069; in other cases, total RNA from cryopreserved samples were extracted using TRIzol reagent (Invitrogen) according to the manufacturer’s protocols and further purified with RNeasy Mini Columns (Qiagen, Valencia, CA), before aliquots were run in agarose gel electrophoresis and measured by spectrophotometer at 260 and 280 nm to assess the quality of the RNA.

Data processing Normalization was performed with the robust multiarray average procedure using the appropriate functions in the affy package for Bioconductor (http://bioconductor.org).
