RNA sequencing of bacterial samples

(Submitter supplied) This study aimed to investigate the survival of an environmental isolate under salt stress and to identify the various genes involved in stress protection following RNA sequencing analysis. The obtained results provide new targets that will allow understanding the in-depth mechanisms involved in the adaptation of bacteria to salt stress.

Active DNA demethylation regulates myo-inositol-mediated mutualism between plants and beneficial rhizobacteria [bacteria RNA-seq]

(Submitter supplied) Plants develop mutualistic association with beneficial rhizobacteria. To understand this important phenomenon, early mechanisms for establishing the mutualism are critical. Here we report that active DNA demethylation in plants controls root secretion of myo-inositol, which triggers and further facilitates colonization of the beneficial rhizobacteria Bacillus megaterium strain YC4, thereby allowing for plant growth-promotion. more...

Levels and Characteristics of mRNAs in Dormant Spores of Firmicute Species

(Submitter supplied) Spores of Bacillales and Clostridiales species contain 100s of different mRNAs, and their major function in Bacillus subtilis is to provide ribonucleotides for new RNA synthesis when spores germinate. In new work, RNA was isolated from spores of five Bacillales and one Clostridioides species and relative spore mRNA levels were determined by RNA-seq. Determination of RNA levels in single spores allowed calculation of RNA nt/spore, and assuming mRNA is 3% of spore RNA allowed calculation that only ~6% of spore mRNAs were present at ≥ 1/spore. more...

Ketogulonigenium vulgare cells: co-culture mode vs. mono-culture mode

(Submitter supplied) Transcriptional profiling of K. vulgare cells co-cultured with Bacillus megaterium compared to K. vulgare mono-cultured cells. Differentially expressed genes in co-cultured and mono-cultured K. vulgare cells were analyzed. The aim was to investigate the mechanisms of B. megaterium stimulating K. vulgare propagation on global gene expression.

Transcriptome profiling of degU expression reveals unexpected regulatory patterns in Bacillus megaterium and discloses new targets for optimizing expression

(Submitter supplied) First whole transcriptome assessment of a Bacillus megaterium strain. The B. megaterium DegU regulon was assessed for LB batch cultures with artificially induced degU expression. DegU is a pleiotropic regulator in B. subtilis governing adaptive responses such as secretory enzyme production.
