Bladder cancer extracellular vesicles

Analysis of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from the urine of bladder cancer (BC) patients. Results provide insight into the potential use of mRNAs associated with urinary EVs as non-invasive diagnostic biomarkers of BC.

A Pilot Study on the Potential of RNA-Associated to Urinary Vesicles as a Suitable Non-Invasive Source for Diagnostic Purposes in Bladder Cancer

(Submitter supplied) Abstract: Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers and, together with prostate carcinoma, accounts for the majority of the malignancies of the genitourinary tract. Since prognosis ameliorates with early detection, it will be beneficial to have a repertoire of diagnostic markers that could complement the current diagnosis protocols. Recently, cell-secreted extracellular vesicles have received great interest as a source of low invasive disease biomarkers because they are found in many body fluids, including urine. more...

Urinary Extracellular Vesicles RNA Profile in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma as Biomarker

(Submitter supplied) Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for about 2% of all cancers. Renal biopsy is the gold standard among the diagnostic tools, but it is invasive and not suitable for all patients. Therefore, new reliable and non-invasive biomarkers for ccRCC detection are required. Secretion of extracellular vesicles (EVs), containing RNA molecules that can be transferred between cells, seems to be a general characteristic of malignant transformation. more...

RNA profiles in serum and urine extracellular vesicles of patients with cholangiocarcinoma mimicking tumor expression: novel liquid biopsy approach

(Submitter supplied) Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) represents a heterogeneous group of biliary cancers with poor prognosis. Although the aetiology is generally unknown, factors like Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) predispose to its development. Simultaneously, around 80% of patients with PSC have concomitant Ulcerative Colitis (UC). As there are no specific and sensitive biomarkers for the non-invasive diagnosis of CCA, we aimed to analyse the RNA content of serum and urine extracellular vesicles (EVs) to find accurate biomarkers of CCA that could be reflecting tumor behaviour. more...

Analysis of clinical bladder cancer classification according to microarray expression profiles

(Submitter supplied) Using Affymetrix microarray technology we analyzed the gene expression profiles of the most important pathological categories of bladder cancer in order to detect potential marker genes. Applying an unsupervised cluster algorithm we observed clear differences between tumor and control samples, as well as between superficial and muscle invasive tumors. According to cluster results, the T1 high grade tumor type presented a global genetic profile which could not be distinguished from invasive cases. more...
