RNA Sequencing and characterization of the linear and circular transcriptomes from healthy controls' and multiple sclerosis patients' leukocytes

(Submitter supplied) Background and aim: The disease course and clinical phenotype in multiple sclerosis (MS) are highly variable and therefore, biomarkers are needed. Studies have shown a dysregulation in the coding and non-coding RNAs and proposed some as biomarkers. However, still none of them have reached the clinical practice. Recently, circular RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as new players in the transcriptome that hold a great potential as biomarkers in several diseases. more...

Identification of circular RNA hsa_circ_001879 and hsa_circ_004104 as novel biomarkers for coronary artery disease

(Submitter supplied) The circRNA profiles of 24 CAD patients and 7 controls were performed by microarray. Six classifiers were used to evaluate potential circRNAs biomarkers. The expression levels of candidate circRNAs were further verified by qRT-PCR in large cohorts. Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic were conducted to assess the diagnostic value. A total of 624 circRNAs and 171 circRNAs were significantly upregulated and downregulated, respectively, in CAD patients relative to controls. more...

Circular RNAs are super abundant in cervical tumor and plasma detected by high throughput microarray [RNA-Seq]

(Submitter supplied) Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a new class of endogenous and regulatory non-coding RNAs, but their expressions in tumor and plasma are largely unknown. Here, our study firstly suggested that microarray should be more efficient than RNA sequencing for circRNA profiling. Then, we detected ~80,000 circRNAs expressed in cervical tumors and matched normal tissues by microarray, and ~23,000 of them are differently expressed. more...

Genome-wide profiling of the expression of exosomal circRNAs in patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis

(Submitter supplied) Hepatic echinococcosis (HE) caused by Echinococcus spp. transmitted from carnivores is known as a severe zoonotic disease that formed into hepatic cystic echinococcosis (HCE) and hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE). It continues to be a serious public health issue around the world. HAE is uncommon infection which is characterized by poor prognosis but it is the most life-threatening compare to HCE. more...

A map of human circular RNAs in clinically-relevant tissues

(Submitter supplied) Cellular circular RNAs (circRNAs) are generated by head-to-tail splicing and are present in all multicellular organisms studied so far. Recently, circRNAs have emerged as large class of RNA which can function as post-transcriptional regulators. It has also been shown that many circRNAs are tissue- and stage specifically expressed. Moreover, the unusual stability and expression specificity make circRNAs important candidates for clinical biomarker research. more...

Comprehensive circular RNA expression profiling and competitive endogenous RNAs regulatory networks in distal cholangiocarcinoma

(Submitter supplied) To explore the differentially expressed (DE) circular (circ)RNAs, competing endogenous RNAs networks, and potential biomarkers in distal cholangiocarcinoma (dCCA), using microarray analysis, a comprehensive circRNA expression profiling was constructed with six paired dCCA tumor and adjacent normal samples. A total of 171 DE circRNAs were identified. Three upregulated (hsa_circ_0060144, hsa_circ_0008274, and hsa_circ_0000673) and two downregulated circRNAs (hsa_circ_0139402 and hsa_circ_0001714) were validated with RT-qPCR in 40 dCCA patients. more...

Profiling and bioinformatics analyses reveal differential expression of circular RNA in tongue cancer revealed by high-throughput sequencing

(Submitter supplied) Circular RNAs (circRNA) are special non-coding RNAs. They are widely present, but with unknown functions. Recent studies have shown that many endogenous circRNAs have sponge function to absorb microRNAs. They can regulate target gene mRNA expression and play important roles in many biological processes. However, expression profile and function of circRNAs in human TSCC haven’t been reported. High-throughput sequencing was performed to identify and annotate from three TSCC tissues and adjacent tissues. more...
