Peripheral Blood Transcriptomic Analysis for Salmonella Infection in Pig

(Submitter supplied) Peripheral blood transcriptome is an important intermedia data source for investigation of the mechanism of Salmonella invasion, proliferation, and transmission but its development in pig is quite limited. We challenged four weeks old piglets (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire crossbred) with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium LT2 and investigated the peripheral blood gene expression profile before treatment (d0) and at 2 and 7 day post inoculation (dpi) using deep sequencing technology.

Peripheral blood transcriptome responses to Salmonella Typhimurium in pigs differing in Salmonella shedding phenotypes

(Submitter supplied) Salmonella species infect many vertebrate species, and pigs colonized with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (ST) are usually asymptomatic, making detection of these Salmonella-carrier pigs difficult. The variable fecal shedding of this gram-negative bacteria in such pigs is an important cause of foodborne illness and zoonotic disease. To investigate gene pathways and biomarkers associated with the variance in Salmonella shedding following experimental inoculation, we have initiated the first analysis of the whole blood transcriptional response induced by Salmonella. more...

MicroRNA-146 function in the innate immune response of zebrafish embryos to Salmonella typhimurium infection [miRNA profile]

(Submitter supplied) This study reports on infection-inducible miRNAs in zebrafish. MicroRNA-146 function in the innate immune response of zebrafish embryos to Salmonella typhimurium infection [RNA-seq]

(Submitter supplied) We used zebrafish embryos as an in vivo system to investigate the role of the microRNA-146 family (consisting of 2 members miR-146a and miR-146b) in the innate immune response to S. typhimurium infection. To determine the role of miR-146 microRNAs in the response to S. typhimurium infection we used Illumina RNA sequencing to compare the mRNA expression profiles of control embryos versus embryos with knockdown of miR-146a and miR-146b. more...

Small RNA sequencing reveals new mode of action and potential biomarkers for the mycotoxin Zearalenone

(Submitter supplied) Purpose: The mycotoxin zearalenone (ZEN) poses a risk to animal health because of its estrogenic effects.
