(Submitter supplied) Vuilleminia comedens is a basidiomycete pioneer species in attached angiosperm branches, especially beech (Fagus sylvaticus), initiating decomposition of lignocellulose. Pioneer species exert priority effects on subsequent colonisers influencing community structure.
