Different Campylobacter species show variances in their heat stress response [Campylobacter coli]

(Submitter supplied) Background: The food-borne pathogen Campylobacter is one of the most important zoonotic pathogens. Compared to other zoonotic bacteria, Campylobacter species are quite susceptible to environmental or technological stressors. This might be due to the lack of many stress response mechanisms described in other bacteria. Nevertheless, Campylobacter is able to survive in the environment and food products. more...

Genome analysis of C. jejuni and C. coli isolated from different regions of the same chicken

(Submitter supplied) The gut of chicken is mostly colonised with Campylobacter jejuni and with 100 fold less C. coli. The competitive ability of C. coli OR12 over C. jejuni OR1 has been examined in experimental broiler chickens following the observation that C. coli replaced an established C. jejuni intestinal colonisation within commercial chicken flocks reared outdoors (El-Shibiny, A., Connerton, P.L., Connerton, I.F., 2005. more...

Transcriptomic analysis of C. jejuni HPC5 with C. jejuni HPC5 R14, R20, R14A, R14B, R20A, R20B and R20C.

(Submitter supplied) C. jejuni HPC5 is a Campylobacter strain isolated from chickens. Following bacteriophage CP34 treatment on chickens colonised by C. jejuni HPC5, a series of CP34 insensitive strains like C. jejuni HPC5 R14 and C. jejuni HPC5 R20 were obtained which compromised their ability to colonise chickens. Reintroduction of C. jejuni HPC5 R14 and R20 in to chickens led to reversion of these strains and the MRPs of the revertant strains fell in to different classes termed C. more...

Genome analysis of C. jejuni and C. coli isolated from different regions of the same pig

(Submitter supplied) C. coli is the predominant Campylobacter strain that is found in pigs while C. jejuni if present will be 10- 100 folds less. Natural transformation can occur if there is a coexistence of both the strains in the intestine of pigs. Genome analyses were performed on a C. jejuni strain U101 isolated from the upper intestine and two C. coli strains, C101 and L101 isolated from caecum and lower intestine.

Transcriptomic analysis of C. jejuni grown in anaerobic jar with air mix and in Modular Atmospheric Controlled System

(Submitter supplied) Transcriptomic analysis of C. jejuni HPC5 grown in anaerobic jar supplemented with air mix and in Modular Atmospheric Controlled System (MAC). C. jejuni HPC5 is a Campylobacter strain isolated from broiler chickens. Majority of the Campylobacter strains are cultured in an atmosphere containing 5-10% (v/v) oxygen or 5% hydrogen and 5-10% (v/v) carbon dioxide and the rest with nitrogen. To set up a jar (3.5L, Oxoid) to the required microaerophilic conditions, a vacuum is created to -22 psi and then air mixture of 85% v/v nitrogen, 10% v/v carbon dioxide and 5% v/v hydrogen (Air Products, Crewe, UK) is introduced into the jar. more...

Expanded MLST genotyping and comparative genomic hybridization of Campylobacter coli isolates from multiple hosts

(Submitter supplied) Although the majority of previous work on campylobacteriosis has centered on the species Campylobacter jejuni, Campylobacter coli, the sister group to C. jejuni, is also a significant problem, but remains a much less studied organism. The purpose of this study was to develop and apply an expanded 16 locus MLST genotyping scheme to a large collection of C. coli isolates sampled from a wide range of host species, and to complete microarray comparative genomic hybridizations for these same strains, in order to: (1) determine whether host specific clones, genotypes, or clonal complexes are evident and (2) evaluate whether there are particular genes comprising the dispensable portion of the C. more...

UON_Campylobacter oligo array v1

(Submitter supplied) The slides prepared for microarray were γ APS coated, A+ bar-coded Schott nexterion slides. The slides were printed according to Campylobacter dense array gal by Microgrid II GOD robot using TAS software version V2.4.03. This had 2500 pins with a 26 x 26 pin grid configuration. The spacing between the spots was 0.165 mm and the slides were rehydrated by incubation at room temperature in a humidity chamber for 30 min followed by a 30 min incubation at 60 ºC to dry. more...
