Gene expression profile during Ebselen treatment in budding yeast

(Submitter supplied) Ebselen is synthetic selenium containing organic compound. It exhibits glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) like activity hence acts as a potent antioxidant therefore has been widely used in the treatment of various diseases. In contrast, certain studies also demonstrate its toxic nature; however its mechanism of action is not well understood. Presently, Ebselen has been used at 100 µM concentration for the elucidation of its molecular and cellular mechanism of action. more...

NaphS2 Gene Expression During Anaerobic Degradation of Naphthalene

(Submitter supplied) Degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) such as naphthalene by anaerobic microorganisms is poorly understood. Strain NaphS2, an anaerobic sulfate reducing marine delta-proteobacterium is capable of using naphthalene and the aromatic compound benzoate, as well as pyruvate, as an electron donors in the presence of sulfate. In order to identify genes involved in the naphthalene degradation pathway, we compared gene expression in NaphS2 during growth on benzoate vs. more...

Polyphosphate affects gene expression and viability of Porphyromonas gingivalis W83

(Submitter supplied) Polyphosphate (polyP) is a ubiquitous and abundant compound found in bacteria, fungi, algae, plant, and animals. Among roles of intracellular polyP in bacteria are resistance and survival in the stationary phase of the growth against stress and stringent condition. Therefore, intracellular polyP is considered as a virulence factor of bacteria. In contrast, exogenous polyP has an antimicrobial activity against a variety of microorganisms. more...

Transcriptome Analysis of Agmatine and Putrescine Catabolism in Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1

(Submitter supplied) Polyamines (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) are major organic polycations essential for a wide spectrum of cellular processes. The cells require mechanisms to maintain homeostasis of intracellular polyamines to prevent otherwise severe adverse effects. We performed a detailed transcriptome profile analysis of P. aeruginosa in response to agmatine and putrescine with an emphasis in polyamine catabolism. more...

The protective role of silicon in the Arabidopsis-powdery mildew pathosystem

(Submitter supplied) The role and essentiality of silicon (Si) in plant biology has been debated for over 150 years in spite of numerous reports describing its beneficial properties. To obtain unique insights regarding the effect of Si on plants, we performed a complete transcriptome analysis of both control and powdery mildew-stressed Arabidopsis plants, with or without Si application, using a 44K microarray. Surprisingly, the expression of all but two genes was unaffected by Si in control plants, a result contradicting reports of possible direct effect of Si as a fertilizer. more...

Candidatus Pelagibacter ubique OSU_SAR11_affychip

(Submitter supplied) Oligos designed using sequences from three SAR11 genomes (HTCC1062, 1002, 7211) as well as highly similar sequences from the first metagenomic GOS survey (Venter et al. 2004). No mismatch probes are included on the chip. All probes target biotin-labeled antisense-RNA. Probes hard pruned against 16s and 23s rRNA genes. Affy description of production (from website): GeneChip microarrays are a classic Silicon Valley innovation, combining several disciplines to create a new technology and more useful research tool. more...
