Redefining electrical stimulation safety using spatial transcriptomics

(Submitter supplied) Current standards for safe delivery of electrical stimulation to the central nervous system are based on foundational studies which examined post-mortem tissue for histological signs of damage. This set of observations and the subsequently proposed limits to safe stimulation, termed the “Shannon limits,” allow for a simple calculation (using charge per phase and charge density) to determine the intensity of electrical stimulation that can be delivered safely to brain tissue. more...

Gene expression profiles in rat alveolar macrophages exposure to submicron carbon fibers

(Submitter supplied) To evaluate the biological effects at the transcriptional level of manufactured nanomaterials, whole genome microarrays of rat alveolar macrophages (NR8383) exposed to three types of submicron-diameter carbon fibers (SCFs) with different physicochemical properties were performed. In comparison with the fibers of SCF1, the fibers of SCF2 were shorter, and the fibers of SCF3 were thinner.

Gene expression profiles in rat alveolar macrophages exposure to multi-walled carbon nanotubes

(Submitter supplied) To evaluate the biological effects at the transcriptional level of manufactured nanomaterials, we performed whole genome microarrays of rat alveolar macrophages (NR8383) exposed to multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with different physicochemical properties.

The effect of carbon fiber after 6 month instillation on mouse

(Submitter supplied) Gifu Prefecture and Gifu University are developing technologies for recycling used carbon fiber because the waste disposal process is highly cost and energy intensive. However, generation of carbon fiber dust during the recycling process is a serious issue, especially in the occupational environment. Recycling requires carbonization by partial firing treatment at 500℃ followed by firing treatment at 440℃: these processes produce dust as a by-product. more...
