Loss-of-function mutation of Plastid Terminal Oxidase (ZmPTOX) cause zebra leaf and white kernel by affecting plastid development in maize

(Submitter supplied) Zebra leaf is a special phenotype of variegated leaf in monocotyledonous plant. Here, we characterized a mutant zebra10 (zb10) in maize, which displays defective chloroplast development in white section of leaves at the seedling stage and pale-white kernels. Map based cloning revealed that ZB10 encodes plastid terminal oxidase (ZmPTOX) which is localized in chloroplasts. ZmPTOX protein is highest expressed in leaves and also highly expressed in endosperm. more...

Expression data from tomato fruit at three ripening stages (MG Mature Green, Br Breaker, B10 Breaker+10 days) in wild type line (cv Money Maker, MM) and two transgenic lines LCY1, LCY3 (cv Money Maker, MM).

(Submitter supplied) Tomato fruit ripening is under the control of ethylene as well as a group of ethylene-independent transcription factors, including NON-RIPENING (NOR) and RIPENING INHIBITOR (RIN). During ripening, the linear carotene lycopene accumulates at the expense of cyclic carotenoids. Fruit-specific overexpression of LYCOPENE β-CYCLASE (LCYb) under the control of the PHYTOENE DESATURASE (PDS) promoter resulted in increased levels of β-carotene and ABA and in decreased ethylene levels. more...

Transcriptomic analysis of race L Botryococcus braunii AC768 revealed a race L-specific protein resembling the lycopaoctaene synthase

(Submitter supplied) The green algal Botryococcus braunii (Chlorophyte) is known for accumulating high levels of hydrocarbons that are a useful alternative to fossil fuels. B. braunii is categorized into three groups based on types of their accumulated hydrocarbons: alkadiene/triene in race A, botryococcenes in race B, and lycopadiene in race L. Transcriptomic studies in race A and race B have discovered tremendous information related to the genes encoding proteins involved in hydrocarbon biosynthesis. more...

Identification of NMD regulated genes in Nicotiana benthamiana

(Submitter supplied) Nonsense mediated decay (NMD) is a translation termination coupled quality control system. NMD identifies and degrades aberrant mRNAs containing premature termination codons, thereby preventing the accumulation of detrimental truncated proteins. NMD also controls the expression of several normal mRNAs and non-coding transcripts. RNA-seq assays were conducted to identify the NMD regulated genes in Arabidopsis. more...

Provitamin A-enriched Golden Cassava generated through metabolic engineering has reduced dry matter, elevated oil content and enhanced shelf-life

(Submitter supplied) In this study, β-carotene concentrations in cassava storage roots were enhanced by co-expression of transgenes for deoxyxylulose-5-phosphate synthase (DXS) and bacterial phytoene synthase (crtB), mediated by the patatin type-1 promoter. Storage roots harvested from field-grown plants accumulated carotenoids to ≤50 μg/g DW, a 15- to 20-fold increase relative to roots from non-transgenic plants. Approximately 85-90% of these carotenoids accumulated as all-trans-β-carotene, the most nutritionally efficacious carotenoid. more...

Expression data from citrus embryogenic calli with engineered carotenoid accumulation

(Submitter supplied) Carotenoids have been demonstrated to be indispensable plant secondary metabolites that are involved in photosynthesis, antioxidation, and phytohormone biosynthesis. Carotenoids are likely involved in other biological functions that have yet to be discovered. In this study, we utilized genomic expression investigation to gain a deep insight into the carotenoid-related biological processes in the citrus calli overexpressing CrtB.

Transcriptome of tobacco leaves in different environmental conditions

(Submitter supplied) Comparative analysis of tobacco leaves transcriptomes unveils carotenoid pathway potentially determined the characteristics of aroma compounds in different environmental regions. Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) is a sensitive crop to environmental changes, and a tobacco with unique volatile aroma fractions always formed in specific ecological conditions. In order to investigate the differential expressed genes caused by environmental changes and reveal the formation mechanism of characteristics of tobacco in three different aroma tobacco regions of Guizhou Province, Agilent tobacco microarray was adapted for transcriptome comparison of tobacco leaves in medium aroma tobacco region Kaiyang and light aroma tobacco regions Weining and Tianzhu. more...

Expression analysis of gene silenced barley to identify the function of a novel LRR-RLK (leucine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase)

(Submitter supplied) VIGS (virus-induced gene silencing) was used to silence a putative LRR-RLK, Affy ID Rbaal9i05_at, in barley. Expression patterns in leaves were compared between untreated control leaves, virus treated leaves, VIGS-Rbaal knockdown leaves and VIGS-Rbaal/PDS (phytoene desaturase) co-silenced leaves. ****[PLEXdb(http://www.plexdb.org) has submitted this series at GEO on behalf of the original contributor, David L Parrott. more...
