Transcriptome of Acacia cornigera extrafloral nectaries

(Submitter supplied) Nectaries are the glands responsible for nectar secretion. In the tree Acacia cornigera, extrafloral nectaries produce nectar primarily consumed by mutualistic ant colonies. To understand the genetic programming underlying nectar production, and in particular the connection of the jasmonic acid pathway with the mutualistic ants, extrafloral nectaries tissue was collected at ten time points and conditions, with RNA being isolated and subjected to Illumina RNA-seq analysis.

Expression data from uterus of SD rat during pre-implantation period.

(Submitter supplied) Contraceptive action of Ormeloxifene(Orm), a non-steroidal anti-implantation agent, is well established, however, the molecular targets and pathways regulated by Orm are still not known . The present study was aimed at identifying the genes and pathways modulated by the Orm treatment in rats during uterine receptivity We used microarrays to detail the global programme of gene expression underlying molecular targets and pathways identified under the influence of Ormeloxifene .

Expression analysis of Acacia koa in response to mechanical stimuli

(Submitter supplied) The genes induced by mechanical stimuli may be also involved in disease resistance and wood formation and development in Acacia koa. If so, mechanically stressed A. koa may be used as a model to study disease resistance and wood formation and development. Microarray analysis was performed to determine expression levels of 4,000 genes related to disease resistance and wood development in Acacia koa in response to mechanical stimuli (touch).

Honeys Inhibit Virulence and Biofilm Formation in Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7, but Do not Harm Commensal Escherichia coli K-12 Biofilm

(Submitter supplied) Honey has been widely used against bacterial infection for centuries. Previous studies suggested that honeys in high concentrations inhibited bacterial growth due to the presence of anti-microbial compounds, such as methylglyoxal, hydrogen peroxide, and peptides. In this study, we found that three honeys (acacia, clover, and polyfloral) in a low concentration as below as 0.5% (v/v) significantly suppress virulence and biofilm formation in enterohemorrhagic E. more...

Liver Pharmacology and Xenobiotic Response Repertoire

(Submitter supplied) A definition of RNA expression changes that correlate with liver response programs and an understanding of the similarities and differences in responses to different classes of chemicals would aid in new chemical or drug characterization and add to our understanding of liver biology. We have used a supervised classification approach to systematically mine a large microarray database derived from livers of compound-treated rats. more...

Tannin resistance strategies of Escherichia coli in anaerobic conditions

(Submitter supplied) Gene expression profiles of Escherichia coli, grown anaerobically, with or without Acacia mearnsii (Black wattle) extract were compared to identify tannin-resistance strategies. The cell envelope stress protein, spy, and the multidrug transporter-encoding mdtABCD, both under the control of the BaeSR two-component regulatory system, were significantly up-regulated in the presence of tannins. BaeSR mutants were more tannin-sensitive than their wild-type counterparts. more...
