Plant species delimitation is a difficult task in traditional morphology-based taxonomy. The genome skimming approach has been increasingly used for phylogenetic analysis and species identification in recent years. Yet, the efficacy of this approach in plant species delimitation remains poorly understood. Here, we carried out a case study in the taxonomically perplexing taxa, Paris L. section Axiparis H. Li (Melanthiaceae), to investigate the performance of the genome skimming approach in delineating species boundaries.
