Long description: Late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans greatly constrains potato production. Many Resistance to P. infestans (Rpi) genes were cloned; however, they have been overcome by P. infestans. To address the need to clone additional broad-spectrum Rpi genes, we explored the genetic diversity of S. americanum. By applying sequence capture technologies, we fine-mapped and cloned Rpi-amr1, which is (usually) located on the short arm of chromosome 11. Multiple Rpi-amr1 homologs were found in different S. americanum accessions and in relatives, including Solanum nigrescens, Solanum nodiflorum and Solanum nigrum. This dataset contains short (Illumina) and long (PacBio) RenSeq (Resistance gene enrichment and Sequencing) reads from multiple resistant S. americanum, S. nigrum and S. nodiflorum accessions. To map the underlying resistance genes, we also applied GenSeq (Generic-mapping enrichment Sequencing) and RAD markers to resistant parental lines and bulked samples from segregating populations (bulked segregant analysis, BSA)
