Design: Dissected organs were soaked in RNA later (QIAGEN) to avoid RNA degradation and pooled in batches before RNA extraction. On average, RNA samples from 200 pairs of salivary glands dissected on the same day were pooled for one replicate of RNA-seq experiment. RNA extraction by NucleoSpin RNA XS (Macherey-Nagel). rRNA depletion, single stranded-RNA library preparation, multiplexing, and sequencing were performed by Genewiz (NJ, USA)
