show Abstracthide AbstractThe skuas and jaegers (Stercorariidae) are an enigmatic family of seven seabird species that breed at Arctic and Antarctic latitudes. The phylogenetic relationships amongst the species have been controversial, particularly involving the relationship between the Pomarine Jaeger (Stercorarius pomarinus) and the large skuas formerly placed in the genus Catharacta. In this project, we sequenced the whole genomes of each of the seven recognized species of Stercorariidae in order to clarify the phylogenetic relationships between the species and assess the role of hybridization in the evolutionary history of the group.
