Design: Approximately 15 ug of high molecular weight gDNA was extracted using the Qiagen DNeasy Blood & Tissue Kit from early stationary phase cells grown with 30 mM acetate as the electron donor and 30 mM nitrate as the electron acceptor. gDNA was sheared and prepared for PacBio long read sequencing using standard protocols for 20 kb inserts. SMRT bell templates were size selected with a 4-kb cutoff using the Blue Pippin system (Sage Science). Raw reads were generated on the PacBio RS II instrument using P4-C2 chemistry and 180-minute movies.

As of this submission, complete genomes from halophilic representatives of the Geobacteraceae family of Deltaproteobacteria are lacking. This submission provides the complete genome of Geoalkalibacter subterraneus Red1, an alkalitolerant, halophilic, iron-reducing bacterium isolated from Redwash Oilfield (Utah, USA). This and other genomes from haloalkaliphilic Geobacteraceae offer important insight into the diversity of metabolic and extracellular respiratory pathways in metal-reducing bacteria.
