    A structural constituent of ribosome. Predicted to be involved in cytoplasmic translation; endonucleolytic cleavage in ITS1 to separate SSU-rRNA from 5.8S rRNA and LSU-rRNA from tricistronic rRNA transcript (SSU-rRNA, 5.8S rRNA, LSU-rRNA); and endonucleolytic cleavage to generate mature 3'-end of SSU-rRNA from (SSU-rRNA, 5.8S rRNA, LSU-rRNA). Part of cytosolic small ribosomal subunit. Is active in synapse. Is expressed in 1-cell stage embryo; 2-cell stage embryo; and 4-cell stage embryo. Orthologous to human RPS21 (ribosomal protein S21).
