Defining disablement in otolaryngology

Ear Nose Throat J. 1995 Apr;74(4):233-7.

Abstract

Taxonomies developed by the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health define different levels of chronic health conditions. This paper explains these classification systems, using examples relevant to otolaryngologists. This taxonomy may provide a useful framework for thinking about the stages of patient evaluation and treatment planning. It may also facilitate consideration of findings in the literature on clinical research.
