1.

Pancreatic Elastase

A protease of broad specificity, obtained from dried pancreas. Molecular weight is approximately 25,000. The enzyme breaks down elastin, the specific protein of elastic fibers, and digests other proteins such as fibrin, hemoglobin, and albumin. EC 3.4.21.36.

Year introduced: 2000(1965)

guamerin [Supplementary Concept]

a cysteine-rich polypeptide of 57 amino acid residues; from a Korean native leech Hirudo nipponia; a human leukocyte and porcine pancreatic elastase-specific inhibitor; has 51% sequence homology with hirustasin; amino acid sequence given in first source

Date introduced: July 7, 1995
