Treatment protocol |
The A. tumefaciens strain AGL0 (Lazo et al., 1991), containing the pFRN-FaPRE1 was used to inject the strawberry fruit receptacles (Fragaria × ananassa), according to Hoffmann et al. (2006). A total of 15-25 strawberry plants and 30-40 agroinfiltrated fruits were inoculated and analysed, respectively. As control, fruits agroinfiltrated with the empty pFRN vector were used.

Growth protocol |
Strawberry plants (F. x ananassa) used for agro-infiltration were grown in plant chamber at 25 ºC, 10.000 lux and 80% humidity and afterwards maintained in a greenhouse.

Extraction protocol |
Total RNA was isolated from independent strawberry floral buds, as stated by Asif et al. (2000). The total RNA obtained was treated with DNase I (RNase free) (Invitrogen), in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, to remove genomic DNA contamination, after which it was purified by using the RNeasy Mini kit (Qiagen).
