Extraction protocol RNA was isolated from the gastrocnemius skeletal muscle of young mice and old mice. RNA was purified using the RNeasy Mini kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany).

Label protocol Cy3-labeled cRNA (1.65 μg) was mixed and fragmented according to the Agilent Technologies protocol.
 
Hybridization protocol cRNA was prepared according to the standard Agilent protocol. Agilent platform Agilent-028005 SurePrint G3 Mouse GE 8x60K Microarray (Feature Number version) was used.
Scan protocol Arrays were scanned on an Agilent Microarray Scanner to detect Cy3 fluorescence.
Data processing The scanned images were analyzed using Feature Extraction Software 9.5 (Agilent) with default parameters (protocol: GE1_1100_Jul11 and Grid: 028005_D_F_20150604 to obtain background-subtracted and spatially detrended Processed Signal intensities. Features flagged in Feature Extraction Software as Non-uniform outliers were excluded.
