Vibrio. This genus is abundant in marine or freshwater environments such as estuaries, brackish ponds, or coastal areas; regions that provide an important reservoir for the organism in between outbreaks of the disease. Vibrio can affect shellfish, finfish, and other marine animals and a number of species are pathogenic for humans.
Vibrio alginolyticus More.... This organism is found in the marine environment. Humans can into contact with seawater or marine life can develop soft tissue infections, which can progress to bacteremia. This organism produces two sets of flagella, one to move through liquid media, and another set to move across a solid surface which produces a swarming effect similar to that observed with Proteus mirabilis.
