The American pika, Ochotona princeps, is a small mouse-like mammal that is actually related to rabbits and other lagomorphs. It lives at high altitudes amid the rocky talus slopes of the mountains of western North America. The genome of the American pika is organized in 33 autosomes and a pair of sex chromosomes.
