    Study demonstrated that a cross-regulation between CD146 and HIF-1alpha in pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells triggers pulmonary vascular remodeling. CD146 promotes HIF-1alpha transcriptional program through NF-kappaB and HIF-1alpha upregulates CD146 through direct binding to its promoter region. These findings uncover previously uncharacterized hypoxic reprogramming during vascular remodeling.

    Study provide explicit evidence that CD146, with elevated expression and activity in a variety of cancers, is a key factor involved in the cadherin switch. CD146 overexpression significantly promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in both mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) and ovarian cancer cells.
