    Study in different human cell lines and postmortem neurodegenerative diseases brain samples shows that BDNF-mediated Akt directly phosphorylates AEP on T322 and blocks AEP activation, sequestering it in lysosomes. BDNF reduction in neurodegenerative diseases elicits reduction of p-AEP T322, AEP cytoplasmic translocation, and subsequent activation, escalating its autocleavage and pathological substrate truncation.
