Most of the natural killer cell p46-related protein (NKp46) and NK cell Lectin-like receptor subfamily A (Ly49A) molecules were restricted to microdomains; however, individual NKp46 molecules resided in these domains for shorter periods and diffused faster on the surface of educated, compared to hyporesponsive, NK cells.

Educated natural killer cells show dynamic movement of the activating receptor NKp46 and confinement of the inhibitory receptor Ly49A.

study found the receptor Ly49A bound the MHC class I molecule H2-M3 with an affinity similar to its affinity for H-2D(d); specific recognition of H2-M3 by Ly49A regulated 'licensing' of NK cells and mediated 'missing-self' recognition of H2-M3-deficient bone marrow

Recognition of the nonclassical MHC class I molecule H2-M3 by the receptor Ly49A regulates the licensing and activation of NK cells.

The difference in frequency of Ly49A-specific natural killer (NK) cells between H2-Dd+/+ and H2-Dd+/2 mice is reflected by a skewed balance between proliferation and apoptosis in this subset.

Skewing of the NK cell repertoire by MHC class I via quantitatively controlled enrichment and contraction of specific Ly49 subsets.

Ly49A blocks Zap70, extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 and c-Jun activation but leaves unique components of the CD28 signaling pathway intact.

Engagement of transgenic Ly49A inhibits mouse CD4 cell activation by disrupting T cell receptor, but not CD28, signaling.

The association with MHC-I in cis sequestered wild-type Ly49A, and this was found to relieve NK cells from a suppressive effect of unengaged Ly49A

Ly49A engagement on T cells dramatically limits T-cell activation and the resultant lymphoproliferative disorder that occurs in CTLA-4-deficient mice.
