    Summary
Enables ankyrin binding activity; microtubule binding activity; and phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate binding activity. Involved in several processes, including axon guidance; long-term strengthening of neuromuscular junction; and maintenance of presynaptic active zone structure. Located in several cellular components, including fusome; lateral plasma membrane; and spectrosome. Is expressed in several structures, including adult head; adult heart; epithelium; gut section; and larval muscle cell. Used to study spinocerebellar ataxia type 5. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in autosomal recessive spinocerebellar ataxia 14; hereditary spherocytosis; hereditary spherocytosis type 2; and spinocerebellar ataxia type 5. Orthologous to several human genes including SPTBN1 (spectrin beta, non-erythrocytic 1). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Nov 2024]
