    Summary
    The flavoprotein DNA photolyase uses light to repair cyclobutylpyrimidine dimers in DNA. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10736]. Exposing Escherichia coli to UV radiation at wavelengths near the absorption maximum of DNA produces cyclobutane-type pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) as well as, to a lesser degree, 6-4 pyrimidine-pyrimidones in its DNA.
