aPKC - atypical protein kinase C

Enables PDZ domain binding activity; myosin binding activity; and protein serine/threonine kinase activity. Involved in several processes, including morphogenesis of an epithelium; oocyte differentiation; and positive regulation of plasma membrane bounded cell projection assembly. Located in apical cortex; apical plasma membrane; and apicolateral plasma membrane. Part of PAR polarity complex. Is active in apical junction complex. Is expressed in several structures, including epithelial cell; epithelium; germ layer; specialized Malpighian tubule cell; and stomodeal invagination. Used to study carcinoma and high grade glioma. Orthologous to several human genes including PRKCI (protein kinase C iota). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Oct 2024]
