Enables class I DNA-(apurinic or apyrimidinic site) endonuclease activity; oxidized purine DNA binding activity; and oxidized purine nucleobase lesion DNA N-glycosylase activity. A structural constituent of ribosome. Involved in DNA repair and negative regulation of neuron apoptotic process. Located in cytosolic ribosome and nuclear matrix. Is expressed in adult head; adult heart; organism; and ovary. Used to study intrinsic cardiomyopathy. Orthologous to human RPS3 (ribosomal protein S3).
