Summary
Enables cell adhesion receptor activity. Involved in several processes, including compound eye cone cell differentiation; homophilic cell adhesion via plasma membrane adhesion molecules; and negative regulation of photoreceptor cell differentiation. Located in apical part of cell. Is expressed in several structures, including adult brain cell body rind; adult head; embryonic/larval optic lobe; optic lobe intrinsic columnar neurons; and outer photoreceptor cell. Used to study obesity. Orthologous to human SDK1 (sidekick cell adhesion molecule 1) and SDK2 (sidekick cell adhesion molecule 2). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Nov 2024]
