Summary
This gene encodes a member of the Mx protein family of large GTPases, and functions in the innate immunity system. Interferon alpha/beta treatment or viral infection induces expression of this protein, which subsequently accumulates in the cytoplasm and inhibits viral replication. It has been shown to confer resistance to the influenza virus. This gene produces a functional protein in some feral mouse strains, whereas some inbred mouse strains including the strain of the reference genome, C57BL/6J, contain a deletion or a nonsense mutation that results in a non-functional gene product. RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.

RNA

  1. NR_003520.1 RNA Sequence

    Status: VALIDATED

    Description
Transcript Variant: This variant (2) represents the non-functional allele found in the reference strain. This variant lacks a portion of the central coding region, compared to the coding variant (1). This variant is represented as non-coding because there is no evidence for the synthesis of this protein in the reference strain.
