Summary
This genomic region represents a conserved enhancer that is present upstream of the H19/Igf2 imprinting control region on chromosome 7, in the intergenic region between the H19 (H19, imprinted maternally expressed transcript) and Igf2 (insulin-like growth factor 2) genes. It can drive expression of an SV40 promoter in transfected HeLa cells, and together with another enhancer (Huc2) located approximately 1.4 kb away, it can drive expression of the H19 promoter in mesodermal tissues of transgenic mice. Both enhancers are bi-allelically transcribed, but their expression pattern in day 13.5 embryonic neural and endodermal tissues appears to be distinct from their enhancer function.
